My First Earthquake is female-led indie pop with plenty of boy-girl harmonies. Our music exudes the dance rock funk that makes the kids shake, and we're are not afraid to rock the 80s synths. Our lyrics might be the last place you'd expect to find sage advice about news anchors, zombies, soup, sprinkler systems, and cross-dressing boyfriends.
Rebecca's first earthquake happened at our first rehearsal. The name stuck — we like the mix of geological, sexual repression, and Fisher Price allusions. We've been breaking hearts and repairing guitars ever since, mostly around San Francisco.
Rebecca Bortman does the melodic stuff — sings, writes lyrics, and gyrates spasmodically on stage. Chad Thornton does the harmonic stuff — plays keys, bass and backup vocals. David Lean makes it all rockastic — plays guitar and bass. Andre Salcido bangs on the drums.
